Positive Sphere of People
Hello world, it's Kodi here and today I wanted to share with you my efforts in trying to achieve a personal goal that I set when I got my Passion Planner. A few months later, when I started this blog it also became #3 on my ten year goal list. As I mentioned in my last post, I am a very empathetic and emotional person, and because of that I am very easily affected by the emotions of those around me. So, to create a happy and healthy environment to live in I created the goal of living in a positive sphere of people. By the time I am 30 I hope to have fixed all negative relationships in my life, or at least have a solid way of staying grounded and happy when with these people.
On top of this being a personal goal for me, I believe that living a life with positive and inspiring people around you can really improve your happiness on a day to day basis. Ever since I was a kid I've had issues with negative relationships from bullying in school, to friends who are pessimists, to sarcastic and opinionated grandparents. And sometimes when the bad relationships are with family members, it isn't really an option to just cut them out of your life. So, that's where the different strategies of how to handle those relationships in a positive way come in.
I was recently talking (and crying) to my mom about one such relationship, and funny enough the universe was working in our favor. She had just recently read an article from Zen Habits about how to deal with the toxic people in your life. Now, I had previously had a bunch of issues finding the right "strategy" for me as someone had told me to just put a wall up and ignore my emotions. Naturally, this made me quite mad as I believe my emotions are an enormous part of me and I happen to like being an emotional and sensitive person.
The one tactic that I did discover on my own was talking to positive friends. Granted spending all of my time with them talking about the negative things in my life wasn't ideal but I was getting there. And then my mom found this article which is now printed out and on my wall. And it is a reminder everyday to achieve this goal of mine.
Below is the article and I encourage anyone who is struggling with toxic relationships to really take the advice to heart. My personal favorite and the one I am trying to work on the most is practicing self-compassion.
